Effective Upper Back Pain Treatment Is Within Reach

Effective Upper Back Pain Treatment Is Within Reach

Traditionally, patients seeking surgical options for upper back pain treatment only had one choice—open-back surgery. Today, medical advances have made it possible for thousands of people just like you to find surgical relief without the risks of a conventional operation, and Laser Spine Institute (LSI) is proud to lead the way in minimally invasive alternatives to traditional surgery.

Let’s look at a few of the ways LSI procedures differ from open-back procedures:

  • Pre-surgery: while traditional spine procedures require general anesthesia, LSI uses localized anesthesia and deep IV sedation. Because many patients, due to age, allergies, heart conditions, or low blood pressure, have adverse reactions to general anesthesia, LSI seeks to eliminate anesthetic-related complications.
  • During surgery: while traditional spine procedures must make a large incision to access the damaged area of the spine, LSI makes an incision of less than one inch. Muscles and surrounding tissues are gently moved aside as we insert a thin tube into the incision, through which we funnel surgical tools, lasers, and an endoscope. Your spine damage is targeted and treated, without the risks and tissue trauma of highly invasive methods.
  • Post-surgery: most traditional spine procedures require you to remain in the hospital for several days after surgery so that a doctor can monitor your incision for signs of inflammation or infection. Because of possible tissue or nerve damage sustained during the procedure, recovery periods can be lengthy. At LSI, our patients go home the same day as their surgery, and many report feeling relief only minutes after surgery. A return to normal activities can be achieved in as little as two weeks.
