Spinal Stenosis Treatment
Effective spinal stenosis treatment begins with an accurate diagnosis. Because there are a number of issues that can cause stenosis in the spine, it's important to pinpoint the cause of the actual symptoms you're experiencing so you can address that issue. For example, some spinal stenosis is caused by bulging disc tissue protruding into the spinal canal, and this may be best treated with spinal decompression therapy and rest. In contrast, a case of spinal stenosis caused by a bone spur impinging upon a nerve root may be best served by anti inflammatory medicines.
That being said, there are some prescribed methods that are common to most treatment plans for spinal stenosis, and these include:
- Painkillers – over–the–counter and prescription
- Anti inflammatory medicines
- Spinal decompression therapy
- Physical therapy
- Hot/cold compresses
- Stretching
- Rest
When the treatments above fail to bring enough relief to allow for a normal life, surgical treatment maybe one of the only remaining options. However, many people either don't want to take the significant risks associated with open back and neck procedures, or they are not healthy enough for the procedure. Thankfully, there is a safe, effective, and proven alternative known as endoscopic spine treatment that can be performed without the need for general anesthesia, a hospital stay, or a long recovery. Minimally invasive techniques allow for a smaller incision, and also result in lower infection and higher success rates.
