Laser Back Surgery

Laser back surgery is an advanced procedure that uses the power of lasers to treat conditions like herniated disc, bulging disc, facet joint disease, and more. Although it uses high-tech methods, the process by which it is performed is easy to understand.

First, surgeons make a small incision in the back or neck. Into this incision, they insert a small tube, which gently pushes muscle aside to reach the spine. Surgeons slip progressively larger tubes over top of the initial one to slowly and gently increase the size of the opening until it is large enough to accommodate the endoscopic tools.

Once the final Depuy tube is in place, surgeons insert a tiny camera, suction, irrigation, laser, and other tools into it and perform the procedure using a high definition monitor and x-ray to guide them. Once finished, they slowly remove the tools and tube and close the incision with stitches if necessary.

The patient is kept for observation for just a few hours and then released to go home or back to their hotel room for rest and recuperation. After a post-operative exam within the next few days, the patient is released from Laser Spine Institute. Most patients are back to normal activity in just a few weeks, and 87% tell us that their quality of life has improved since their surgery.
