Don’t Allow Back Pain Symptoms to Reduce Your Quality of Life

Don’t Allow Back Pain Symptoms to Reduce Your Quality of Life

If you’re one of the millions of people who experience back pain symptoms, you’re probably no stranger to the numbness, tingling, or pain that seems to shoot down your entire back, maybe even into your arms and legs. You may also have found that your ability to participate in everyday activities has been reduced—when was the last time you were able to toss a Frisbee without pain? When was the last time you were able to bend down and pet your dog without wincing?

Back pain can take a variety of forms and it can have a variety of causes. Overexertion of the muscles in the back can certainly cause back pain symptoms, as can any kind of trauma or injury. However, many people that report having discomfort in their spine are experiencing the effects of a condition called degenerative disc disease. Just as with any part of the body, the protective discs in our spinal column begin to break down and get thinner, drier, and weaker as we age, making them more prone to shifting or tearing and often resulting in bulging and/or herniated discs.

When the disc becomes damaged, back pain symptoms due to neural compression often manifest themselves. This means that the damaged portion of the disc is impeding on the surrounding spinal column, causing the area to become narrower, leaving less room for the spinal nerves to move freely.

In addition to issues resulting from disc degeneration, some common conditions that cause nerve constriction—and in turn back pain symptoms—include:

  • Bone spurs
  • Facet joint disease
  • Spondylolisthesis

Just because back pain symptoms are common does not mean that anyone should have to acclimate themselves to this discomfort, even when conservative treatments fail to provide relief. Today, there are numerous alternatives to traditional, open-back surgeries, which means patients can find relief without having to go through the stress, trauma, and lengthy recovery periods of conventional operations.

If you suffer from back or neck pain and feel that you would like to learn more about minimally invasive surgeries that are aimed at taking the stress off of your fragile spinal nerves, the expert surgeons at Laser Spine Institute (LSI) are waiting to talk to you. In fact, to show how committed we are to helping you rediscover a life without pain, we’d like to offer you a free review of your MRI or CT scan. A return to your active lifestyle may be just around the corner, so give us a contact us today.
