Neck and Back Pain Remedies Abound From Simple Stretching to Surgery

Neck and Back Pain Remedies Abound From Simple Stretching to Surgery

If you suffer from neck or back pain you can take some solace in the fact that there are countless neck and back pain remedies available to ease your discomfort. When pain is just starting, many people reach for over-the-counter pain killers and anti-inflammatory medicines for relief. If those neck and back pain remedies don’t work and they visit their doctor, stretching or physical therapy may be suggested to gently elongate and strengthen the muscles and align the back and neck. The doctor may also recommend a visit to the chiropractor if more serious spinal adjustments or spinal decompression are needed for relief. Any of these procedures—along with hot and cold compresses and prescription medications—may be prescribed for a period of time while your doctor watches for signs of relief. If none of these measures work, your doctor may start to explore more invasive neck and back pain remedies. Steroidal spinal injections will provide effective relief for most people, but it’s temporary and comes with a variety of side effects. Beyond that, there are few remedies to consider besides surgery. If this discussion has started with your doctor, you should ask them about endoscopic surgery like the kind we offer at Laser Spine Surgery.

It has several advantages over traditional surgical neck and back pain remedies including:

  • No hospitalization. Laser surgery at LSI is an outpatient procedure conducted in one of our state-of-the-art surgical centers.
  • A less invasive nature. It utilizes only one small incision. Traditional surgery can use more than one large, deep incision.
  • Less risk for infection. Traditional surgery comes with a 4% risk of infection and laser surgery comes with a 0.1% risk.
  • Better results. Traditional surgery is effective about 60% percent of the time, but 85% LSI patients report a reduction in symptoms.
  • Quicker recovery time. Traditional back surgery can take months to recover from and requires a hospital stay after surgery. LSI patients are walking the same day as the surgery and they are usually back to their normal activities within 2 weeks.

At LSI we use these endoscopic back pain remedies to treat a variety of conditions including sciatica, herniated disc, facets disease, stenosis and more.  If you’d like more information about these remedies, or a free review of your MRI or CT scan, contact us today.
